CQC and patient safety

Governance software to evidence CQC compliance and patient safety

When an inspector asks how you know care is safe and well led, the answer should not take days to pull together. CGRC AI keeps the evidence in one connected place.

What an inspector wants to see

The Care Quality Commission looks at whether care is safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led. The governance evidence sits behind all of these: how you find problems, how you respond, how you learn, and how the board knows. The regulations set out the duties, including Regulation 17, good governance, Regulation 12, safe care and treatment and Regulation 20, the duty of candour.

Where the evidence lives in CGRC AI

  • Patient safety incidents. Reported in plain words, with harm levels, never event flags, investigation, root cause, actions and a check that the fix held. See incident reporting software.
  • Duty of candour. Whether it applies, who was told, how and when, whether an apology was given and whether a written record was provided.
  • Safeguarding. Concerns, referrals, who was told and when, and any review triggered.
  • Complaints and feedback. Acknowledgement dates, stages, outcomes and remedies.
  • Clinical governance. Audits with results compiled and trended across repeat cycles, policies with version control and staff acknowledgement, safety alerts, mortality reviews and guidance such as NICE.
  • Risk and assurance. A risk register linked to controls and the evidence that they work. See risk management software.
  • Board and committee records. Meetings, decisions, actions and sign-off of minutes.

Patient safety response, not just reporting

The system supports a proportionate response to each type of incident, in the spirit of the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework. You decide in advance which response applies to which category, and the investigator sees that guidance on the record. Investigation fields include a six-factor review of contributory factors, family involvement and a timeline.

What it does not do

CGRC AI records and tracks. It does not certify that you comply with any regulation, it does not predict an inspection rating, and it does not submit reports to national systems for you. The fields follow the questions that national reporting asks, and submission is still made through the national routes. We hold no formal certifications yet.

AI that helps and people who decide

The AI drafts records from a plain description, reads your own policies and earlier similar cases during an investigation, and shows which it used. People always decide. See what the AI does at each step.

Common questions

Does CGRC AI make us CQC compliant?

No. No software can do that. CGRC AI keeps the governance evidence in one connected place and makes it easy to find, so you can show how you identify problems, respond and learn.

Is it only for CQC-registered providers?

It is designed around the questions providers in England are asked, and it also suits charities, research organisations and other providers that need the same governance evidence.

Does it cover duty of candour and safeguarding?

Yes. Both have their own records, with dates, who was told, and referral details, linked to the incident or complaint they arise from.

Can we use it for clinical governance?

Yes. It brings incidents, audits, policies, risks, complaints and board records together, which is the core of clinical governance.
